Pioneer Park to Become 51st Neighborhood

An update from the Des Moines Register on the previous Pioneer Park article. Pioneer Park is moving forward in its bid to become Des Moines' 51st "recognized" neighborhood.

The city's Neighborhood Revitalization Board is slated to consider the Pioneer Park group's bid for recognition at the board's meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the St. Etienne Room of the Armory Building, 602 E. Robert D. Ray Drive. The revitalization board's recommendation will be forwarded to the City Council, which will vote whether to sanction the neighborhood.

As a newcomer to Des Moines, I am so far very impressed with the neighborhood development process. Neighborhoods must first organize before applying to become recognized by the City. Once they are recognized as an official neighborhood, additional incentives are available to assist the organization in working towards achievable revitalization goals.
