[Via the Des Moines Register] Historic East Village Inc. will host "Fill 'er Up," a benefit to save Des Moines' most historic gas station, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. May 29 at East Third and Walnut streets. The gas station has been temporarily relocated to that site. The benefit will raise money to move the station to a permanent spot. Entertainment, games, food and beverages are planned for the occasion. The event will be held rain or shine. | ||

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 8:00am to 4:00pm Interested in salvaging building materials for a good cause? If so, Habitat for Humanity needs your help! The ReStore occasionally salvages hardwood flooring, trim, doors, light fixtures, cabinets and much more from homes in the Des Moines area scheduled for demolition. These materials would otherwise be destroyed, but instead, Habitat resells them at their ReStore to raise funds that benefit Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity. Start: 9:30 am

Despite their better judgment, Jennifer and Larry James fell in love with a pile of sticks shaped like a historic Victorian house. Not only did it have great "bones", but it also contained a treasure trove of historical documents relating to the prior owners. They moved the house, restored it, and have now agreed to open it up and talk about the whole process with the Des Moines Rehabbers Club! Where: 1056 26th Street | ||
