Student Renovators

The Des Moines Register gives some more love to renovation on February 5, 2008, with an article about Central Campus students working on a renovation project:

Students at Central Campus are working together to flip a house without the rush and glamour of some reality shows.

The house, located at 1349 Washington Ave. in Des Moines, was originally scheduled to be demolished by Polk County officials. Instead, the county decided the house was sturdy enough to donate to Central Campus for students to remodel, said Ben Molloy, the home remodeling instructor at the school.

With the collaboration of two programs at Central, the students have gutted the house and are working to rebuild it.

"We take it all the way down to the studs, we gut the interior and we put in all new mechanicals," Molloy said. "We bring everything up to present-day code and put it back on the market."

The Register removes most articles after a short period of time, so there is no link to the full story.
