Located in one of Des Moines' oldest neighborhoods, many of the Victorian homes of Sherman Hill have been lovingly renovated. The active neighborhood association hosts an annual home tour.

Raising the standards of living for low-income people by recycling and donating housing materials to low-income families and housing agencies. HRE diverts materials from landfills, thus helping the environment.

The Ingersoll Park neighborhood boundaries are Interstate 235 on the north, Grand Avenue on the south, 42nd Street on the east, and Polk Boulevard on the west.

The Union Park Neighborhood Association exists to preserve and strengthen the quality of the Union Park neighborhood, promote the area as desirable for both individual and family living, foster neighborhood fellowship, and serve as a vehicle by which neighborhood problems are resolved and neighborhood goals are achieved.

The Des Moines Woodworkers Association is a non-profit association dedicated to education, community service, and sharing of knowledge for those of all ages and skill levels in the field of woodworking.

The River Bend Neighborhood has a broad range of housing type from stately Victorian to modest arts and crafts bungalows, and everything in between. There has also been quite a bit of infill construction on vacant lots and tear-downs. The neighborhood association maintains and excellent and informative web site. Available information includes meeting minutes, breaking neighborhood news, and general neighborhood information.

The City of Des Moines has an innovative neighborhood designation program designed to promote community organizing. According to the City web site, there are currently 51 active neighborhood organizations.
