A workshop on the preservation of historic masonry will be held in Ames and Mount Vernon, Iowa. “Mortar Matters” will feature presentations by David Arbogast and John Speweik, two nationally-recognized authorities in historic masonry. Identical sessions will be held in Ames on Friday, March 26 and Mount Vernon on Saturday, March 27. Choose the location that works best for you.

The Drake Neighborhood Association will present a free
workshop on how to research your home’s history. The public workshop
will run from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, February 13, at the historic
First Christian Church, 2500 University Avenue.

Local historian Jennifer Irsfeld James and Des Moines Rehabbers Club

This workshop is for the solar curious and the experienced solar power user. We will cover the basics of residential sized, grid tied photovoltaic solar systems. After a brief overview of how the solar modules convert solar energy into electricity, we will cover the basics of designing a system. This will include determining costs, intertie requirements, inverters, and placement of the solar modules.
